Black Rock Neighborhood

Black Rock is a neighborhood in Bridgeport, Connecticut, located in the southwest corner of the city. This community is about 10 minutes from the downtown area at its center, roughly bounded by Interstate 95 on the north and the Black Rock Harbor on the south. It extends to the boundaries of the South End neighborhood on the east, the town of Fairfield on the west, and the West End – West Side neighborhood on the north. This community is part of Fairfield County in the 06605 zip code.

Black Rock is a mix of commercial areas, industrial interests, and residential options, home to more than 8,860 residents as of 2000. As of the same year, there were over 4,320 housing units in this community, the vast majority of which were constructed prior to the 1980s. Most of the housing options here are single-family homes, but there are some multi-family rental options within neighborhood bounds as well. This community also has two historic districts, including the Black Rock and Black Rock Gardens Historic Districts.

Residents of this community do not have to travel far from home for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Black Rock offers a bustling restaurant row, and many of the city’s hospitality, entertainment, and arts jobs can be found within this neighborhood. A movie theater is also situated within neighborhood bounds, and several commercial offerings are located along the nearby interstate. The Tunxis Hill Shopping Center is just a few minutes to the north, offering several big-name retailers and popular eateries.

Black Rock is also convenient to many outdoor recreation options. Residents have access to the Long Island Sound, and this community is surrounded by local waterways and natural areas. Just some of the options close to home include Ellsworth Park, Jennings Beach, and Ash Creek Open Space.
