Bear Creek is a neighborhood in the Denver suburb of Lakewood. This is a large neighborhood that is not easily defined but it surrounds the Bear Creek Golf Club. The approximate boundaries are Bear Creek Boulevard on the west and Route 285 on the south, South Wadsworth Boulevard on the east and West Jewel Avenue and West Yale Avenue on the north. Lakewood is located southwest of Denver.
The Bear Creek Greenbelt is located in the northeast corner of the Bear Creek neighborhood. The greenbelt is 340 acres of open space that can accommodate bikers, horseback riders, walkers, joggers and picnickers. Dogs are allowed in the Greenbelt on a leash and any waste must be removed.
Within the greenbelt there is a historic house to visit. The Stone House is a remnant of the Colorado Gold Rush and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It dates from the mid nineteenth century.
Bear Creek Golf Club is located in the western part of the neighborhood. It has an 18 hole course that was designed by Arnold Palmer. This is a men’s only course and it is believed by some to be the finest course ever designed by Palmer.
There are many subdivisions in the Bear Creek neighborhood and the homes date from as early as the 1960s and 70s to very current times. This is a residential area with large lots and lots of trees. The majority of the homes are single family detached but there are condos and apartments as well. Sidewalks are available for walkers on some streets as is bus service.
There are several churches located within the Bear Creek neighborhood and a few local businesses as well as Hertz Car Rental. Bear Creek High School is also located within the area.
