Located in Washington across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon, Clark County is an outdoor lover’s paradise. It contains vast, crystal-clear lakes, a wide variety of wildlife, and dramatic peaks and valleys. The county includes two protected areas and parts of two others. Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge contains 5,300 acres of woods, grasslands, and marshes. The park contains several trails, including a 4.2-mile Auto Tour Route. Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge offers trails and guided hikes. Parts of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and Gifford Pinchot National Forest are also located in Clark County.
The county seat of Clark County is Vancouver – not to be confused with Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada, which was named 29 years after Vancouver, Washington. This rapidly-growing area has a beautiful downtown containing a wide variety of locally-owned small businesses. Employers in the area include Hewlett-Packard, Wells Fargo, and Fred Meyer. Clark College and Washington State University-Vancouver are both located in Vancouver.
Towns and cities in Clark County include Camas, Ridgefield, Battle Ground, Woodland, Yacolt, and La Center. Other communities include Felida, Brush Prairie, Lake Shore, Lewisville, Minnehaha, Salmon Creek, and Venersborg.
