North Creek Neighborhood

North Creek is a neighborhood in the city of Bothell, Washington, just north of Seattle. It is considered a suburb of Seattle and is a bedroom community. Because of its proximity to three downtown hubs, Bothell is a popular place to call home for workers in Seattle, Everett, and the Eastside cities of Bellevue and Kirkland, home to many tech giants such as Microsoft. Because Bothell lies at the top of Lake Washington, commuters can avoid the traffic and bottleneck of the two floating bridges on I-90 and 520 that carry Seattle’s commuters to the Eastside. Another large local employer is Boeing.

Bothell was named after one of the early settlers, David Bothell, who moved to the area from Pennsylvania. The city, incorporated in 1909, was popular because of the railroad that carried coal and for logging. Lake Washington was lowered nine feet in 1917 by the Army Corps of Engineers, and then the water route through Bothell declined in usage. Bothell Way traverses the area as does Lake City Way. Students attend Canyon Creek Elementary, Skyview Junior High, and Bothell High School.

North Creek is mainly a business area, which includes some light industry. The neighborhood is home to the Seattle Times newspaper production building. Shoppers visit the numerous restaurants along the main streets as well as the larger, national chains housed in “big box” locations in North Creek. Many residences in the area are single-family homes with newer condos developments springing up along the main roads. Access to Lake Washington provides outdoor recreation to residents year-round, with boating, fishing, and swimming areas open to the public.
