The sprawling city of Houston, Texas is home to a wide variety of neighborhoods, each with their own style and unique community. The heart of this dynamic city is Downtown Houston. The rest of the city grew out from this central point, and this is where the true flavor of “Houston” can be discovered and enjoyed.

Downtown Houston is home to the University of Houston-Downtown, the Revention Music Center, the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, Minute Maid Park (home of the Houston Astros), and the Downtown Aquarium-Houston. The Buffalo Bayou meanders through the northern part of the neighborhood, and the entire neighborhood is surrounded by major highways: I-10, I-45, and I-69.

Just because you’re renting an apartment in Downtown Houston doesn’t mean you’ll be surrounded by only skyscrapers – although there are many of those. Downtown features several parks, both small “pocket” parks and the large Discovery Green – a park featuring the Discovery Green Dog Run, the Lake House restaurant, the McNair Jogging Trail, Gateway Fountain, and a seasonal skating rink. The park is the place to go for festivals and events, including live concerts and movie series. A tree-shaded, limestone walking path leads from downtown to the George R. Brown Convention Center. The Brown Promenade is adjacent to a raised deck shaded by 100-year-old live oak trees. The deck offers several seating areas for guests. The John P. McGovern Playground is carved from a hill and provides a terrific place for children to play. Discovery Green covers 12 acres and was opened in 2008.

Your apartment in Downtown Houston will be surrounded by other terrific urban neighborhoods. To the west, you’ll find the Fourth Ward. Midtown is to the south, while the Second Ward is on the east side. Downtown Houston is very pedestrian-friendly, and you will be able to walk to the various shops, restaurants, theaters, museums, and sports venues from your Downtown Houston apartment. To travel throughout the Houston area, train stops are located all over downtown.
