Manchester Neighborhood
Manchester is a subdivision in the Harrisburg area. It is located along the Buffalo Bayou in a once-busy area of Harris County. During the 1800s, it was the county seat. The population began to fall and the area was annexed by Houston in 1926. This industrial area is situated along the Houston Ship Channel and contains several chemical plants.
Manchester is about eight miles southeast of downtown. It is roughly six miles from Houston’s Third Ward, the University of Houston, and Texas Southern University. Manchester is near Hartmann Park, a large park with picnic areas, tennis courts, ball fields, and a playground.
