Vista Hills East, roughly two miles south east of the El Paso International Airport was developed beginning in the late 1970s. It is a mix of single family and apartment homes framed by the commercial Montwood Drive in the south, George Dieter Drive to the west, Pebble Hills Boulevard on the north and Saul Kleinfield Drive in the east. It is pedestrian, family friendly and considered sophisticated.
Residents have their choice of schools. Benito Martinez Elementary on Robert Wynn Street is on the eastern end of Vista Hills East. Sunshine Christian School on Montwood Drive is to the south, and Just For You Daycare is on Saul Kleinfield Drive on the northeastern end. The closest high school is Montwood, on Montwood Drive. Around the corner from the high school on North Zaragoza Road is the Champions Sports Plex, offering baseball, softball, and T-ball diamonds, some lighted for night play. St Mark Catholic Church on Norman Montion Drive is on the east side of the neighborhood.
The majority of restaurants, shops, and services are along Montwood Drive. Some big name brand stores are Kmart, Target, and Andersons Supermarket. A four-corner mall on the neighborhood’s southeastern end houses EP Women’s Fitness, Walgreens, Domino’s Pizza, Gil’s Mexican, and Genie’s Friends Daycare. On the western end are Adobe Animal Hospital and Veterinary Care, and a pet store called Sea Creature. A US Post Office is along George Dieter Drive as well as another Walgreens, an Autozone service company, and Premier Optical. In the center of the neighborhood on Lee Boulevard is the Family Dollar Store.
