Logan Heights Neighborhood

North and slightly west of downtown El Paso, Texas, is the neighborhood of Logan Heights, consisting of mostly small to medium-sized single-story dwellings. Some of these homes are fairly modern and a few of them are quite large. The natural environment here is semi-arid and desert-like but green landscaping has been planted on the lots with some of the homes being landscaped nicely.

The northeast corner of Logan Heights is in transition. It was a former barracks and training location for new recruits at nearby Fort Bliss. The Army tore down the original Viet-Nam era barracks and reportedly loaned the area to El Paso for development.

Just to the east of Logan Heights and part of the huge U.S. Army base of Fort Bliss is the Underwood Golf Complex. There are two courses and they are open to active duty personnel, veterans, DOD (Department of Defense) civilian retirees, other Federal employees, and civilian guests.

Portions of Fort Bliss are open to the public. There are some eateries, a popular nightspot, and a movie theater complex frequented by El Paso as well as base residents. Proper ID is required to get onto the base.

El Paso International Airport is located just to the east and southeast of Fort Bliss.

Mount Franklin in the Franklin Mountain range basically cuts the El Paso Metro Area in two. The area is quite primitive and there are camping and mountain climbing opportunities.

Schools in the area belong to the El Paso Independent School District. The University of Texas at El Paso has a nursing school in this area.

Restaurants nearby include Kalbi House, Sorrento Restaurant, and Chais Korean Restaurant.
