Redbird is an urban pocket of Dallas that sits to the west of the Dallas Executive Airport. Major Dallas corporate and commercial developments are also nearby, including a Solo factory and several food distributing warehouses. The Dallas Executive Airport, formerly known as Redbird Airport, serves private and corporate air travel exclusively. It operates during traditional business hours and also has aircraft sales and hangar rental services.
Redbird is located in Dallas’s 75237 zip code and is bordered by several major thoroughfares. R.L. Thompson Freeway/Interstate Highway 35 East makes up the eastern boundary of the Redbird area, while South Cockrell Hill Road acts as the western boundary. The Texas State Highway 12 Loop is the northern border, and Wheatland Road makes up the southern boundary. The major intersection of Interstate Highway 20 and US Route 67 is in the southernmost part of the area. Redbird’s namesake, Red Bird Lane, bisects the neighborhood.
Residential construction is scarce in the area, though there are a few apartment complexes on the south side of Red Bird Park. The A.W. Brown-Fellowship Leadership Academy is the only school in the area, a charter school for children between kindergarten and sixth grade located in the industrial part of Redbird.
For those seeking green space, Redbird Park is on the east side of the Dallas Executive Airport and is home to volleyball courts, soccer fields, and lots of open green space for running and other sports. The park is also home to Bahama Beach family water park. This park has water slides and swimming spots for the whole family and is open from late spring through early fall.
