Lake Highlands Neighborhood

Lake Highlands is an area of Dallas, Texas, which consists of several different neighborhoods. The boundaries of what is commonly referred to as Lake Highlands aren’t officially stated, but they correspond somewhat with City Council District 10. The area roughly extends to Richardson or Walnut Street on the north, White Rock Creek and Northwest Highway on the south, Central Expressway and White Rock Creek on the west, and Garland and Plano Road on the east. East Lake Highlands Drive runs through the area, roughly north/south. The DART light rail and DART bus service serve the Lake Highlands area, making this a potentially eco-friendly collection of neighborhoods.

A handful of parks are located in the Lake Highlands area, including Lake Highlands Park, a large park that borders White Rock Lake. The Bath House Cultural Center is located near the park, overlooking the lake, at 521 East Lawther Drive. This venue is a popular area cultural center, housed in a historic, Art-Deco-style building that is a sight to see itself. Within the Bath House are the White Rock Lake Museum, three galleries, and a black-box theater that seats 116.

Other parks in the area include Flag Pole Hill Park, Norbuck Park, Bel-Aire Park, and Lochwood Park. The Dallas Arboretum is also located nearby on Garland Road. This attraction offers beautiful gardens, adult education programs, and area events, the latter of which often center around the holidays.

The Richardson Independent School District serves the Lake Highlands area. In addition to the Lake Highlands Elementary, Junior High and High Schools, a long list of elementary and middle schools serve the Lake Highlands area communities. For aspiring college students, Richland College is also situated within the Lake Highlands area. This school belongs to the Dallas County Community College District. Area medical centers include Kindred Hospital White Rock on Poppy Drive.
