Northview Heights Neighborhood
The North View Heights Neighborhood is in the 15214 area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lauryn Williams is a daughter of Pittsburgh, graduating high school in Rochester, Pennsylvania in 2001. She won the Silver Medal for the 2004 Athens Olympics 100m heat, her first professional race.
The neighborhood boundaries are Mt. Pleasant Road to the north. The eastern line cuts through the forest. Williams Road is the southern border, with the western front, Route 279, finishing off the neighborhood boundary lines.
To the north nestled in the forest is Pittsburgh channel 11, WPXI, which began life as W11C, a local NBC affiliate. Notably, WPXI was the first network affiliate to host a solo female news anchor, Eleanor Schano, during the 1970s.
To the east of the neighborhood is the Mount Troy Floral Studio, serving the area with ornate bouquets and garden stock supplies.
To the south of the neighborhood is the National Aviary (bird sanctuary), located in the Alleghany Commons Park West, with over six-hundred birds from more than two-hundred species, including African Penguins.
The home of the Alleghany Observatory is to the west in Riverview Park. The Alleghany Telescope Association commissioned construction of the observatory for public education. In 1867 the facility was donated to the University of Pennsylvania.
Rental properties are available on the outskirts of the neighborhood. Refurbished older properties are very well maintained. On average, living in this area is affordable for most renters and homeowners.
The Northview Heights has a conscientious design that includes sidewalks. As the traffic patterns to the north lighten, bike lanes appear more frequently than on the city streets.
The neighborhood is well connected to the rest of the city through the public transportation provided by the Port Authority bus routes and light rail connections.
