Central Oakland Neighborhood

The Central Oakland Neighborhood is in the 15313 zip-code area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is surrounded by a multitude of colleges, universities, museums and art centers. The neighborhood is a mix of artistic and cultural venues that allow residents to fully indulge in life experiences produced by this creative environment, and to appreciate the energy that comes from these areas.

The neighborhood border at the top follows South Bouquet Street, until Schenley Drive takes over and carries the line halfway through the eastern side. Panther Hollow Road finishes off the east as it connects with the southern border of Boulevard of the Allies. The western front forms a right angle that apexes at the intersection of Halket Street and Forbes Avenue.

To the north of the Central Oakland neighborhood, is Schenley Heights for hikers. The slope raises to 318 feet above sea level at the summit, while just to the east of the neighborhood is the Schenley Park Golf Course. To the south is the Southside Works, an excellent example of urban renewal as a former steel plant takes on a new life, with parks, shops and theaters bring vibrancy to the once heavily industrialized area. To the west of the neighborhood is the Pittsburgh Symphony and the Pittsburgh Public Theater.

The Central Oakland Neighborhood is pedestrian friendly, with wide inviting sidewalks. Poised on the delta of two rivers, there are no shortages of cooling trees and shrubs. The narrow roadways require bicyclists to merge with traffic flow, although there are a few bike lanes outside of the park trails.
