Kenton Neighborhood

The up-and-coming residential neighborhood of Kenton is minutes from downtown Portland. Housing in the community includes houses, townhouses, and apartments. Residents and visitors may drive to downtown Portland or take the MAX light rail system into the city. It takes bicyclists approximately 25 minutes to reach the city.

Kenton is pedestrian-friendly and close to schools, restaurants, and shopping. Denver Avenue is the neighborhood’s “strip” and has popular neighborhood restaurants, coffee shops, and other businesses. The MAX station is located on Denver Avenue. The Portland International Airport and the Amtrak Union Station are minutes from the neighborhood.

Golfers are near three of the best public golf courses in Portland. The family-owned Broadmoor Golf Course was established in 1931 and has an 18-hole golf course with a restaurant on grounds. The Heron Lakes Golf Club is located between the Willamette River and Columbia Slough. It was designed by nationally-known golf course architects Robert Trent Jones Sr. and his son, Robert Trent Jones II. The Greenback Course and the Great Blue Course are two distinct, professional 18-hole golf courses at Heron Lakes.

The neighborhood is close to Peninsula Park and Rose Garden. The 1909 park has Portland’s first public rose garden, an Italian villa-style community center, a bandstand historically designated in 1973, and the city’s second oldest playground. The formal rose garden, with 8,900 plantings on a two-acre site, offers 65 varieties of roses for visitors. The 16.27-acre park is a full-service city park which includes courts, playground, picnic tables, and access for the disabled. Arbor Lodge Park is a smaller park with similar amenities. The park includes an off-leash dog area.

Speed is the name of the game at the Portland International Raceway. Under the landmark Goodyear Tower, family-friendly fun at the raceway includes sports car, motor cross, and drag racing.
