Rock Creek Neighborhood

Rock Creek is a small rural community in Clackamas, Oregon, near Southeast 172nd Avenue and Southeast Sunnyside Road. The neighborhood is in a mixed use area that combines suburban residential housing and industrial development with agricultural acreage, densely forested hills, and undeveloped open spaces.

Recreational facilities in Rock Creek abound. Attractions include parks like Ashley Meadows Park, Village Green Park, Sieben Park, and Happy Valley Park. An 18-hole private golf course, Pleasant Valley Golf Club, is located in the center of the Rock Creek. Adult and youth sports are the focus of nearby Hood View Park Sports Complex. Built in 2009, the complex features four softball and baseball fields, and it houses the offices of the North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District.

The neighborhood’s namesake flows through the town of Clackamas. Rock Creek is a Class II-III stream, which runs through a gorge and features an 18-foot waterfall that adventurous rafters attempt to run during the summer.

The Rock Creek neighborhood is a commuter’s dream, offering easy access to Interstate 205, Highway 212, and Highway 214. The intersection where Highway 212 joins Highway 214 is known as “Rock Creek Junction.” To the west, Clackamas Town Center and the retail centers that surround it provide diverse opportunities for shopping and dining. Kaiser Sunnyside Clackamas Medical Center is conveniently located just east of Interstate 205.

Children in the area attend Oregon Trail Elementary School, Rock Creek Middle School, and Clackamas High School. Work is under way on the Trolley Trail, a six-mile bike and pedestrian trail that will connect Rock Creek and nearby neighborhoods to downtown Milwaukie and Gladstone.
