Rochester Institute of Technology - Rochester, NY

A staple in national “top 10″ rankings, the Rochester Institute of Technology is widely respected in the areas of engineering, computing, fine arts, and imaging science. The school offers over 200 programs in eight colleges, including six doctoral programs. RIT is a private university established in 1829. It is located in Henrietta, a small suburban town just south of Rochester, New York.

Henrietta is a charming community with a rural feel. It is situated along the Genesee River and was established in 1818. Apartments in Henrietta near RIT are also near downtown Rochester, Brighton, and the towns of Chili, Wheatland, and Pittsford. Nearby Lake Ontario is a great getaway location with several lighthouses, parks, islands, and beaches. Rochester is a busy metropolitan area, complete with historical architecture, theaters, major corporations, great shopping areas, fantastic restaurants, and nightlife.

RIT provides the area with a highly-educated workforce – it also provides plenty of other reasons to cheer. RIT has 24 varsity sports teams, including ice hockey, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, wrestling, and soccer. Most teams compete in NCAA Division III except for the men’s ice hockey team, which participate in Division I as part of the Atlantic Hockey Association. During the 1960s, the RIT Tigers had an actual rescued Bengal tiger as their mascot. After his death, a metal sculpture of the tiger, Spirit, was constructed on campus.
