Mississippi’s only academic health science center is the University of Mississippi Medical Center, located in Jackson. UMMC provides degrees in the medical, dental, dental hygiene, physical therapy, and occupational therapy fields. UMMC enrolls about 2,900 students with about 600 graduate students. The University Hospital provides care to about 27,000 in-hospital patients and another 418,000 emergency and outpatients. It is the only hospital in Mississippi that is a level 1 trauma center.
