Masonboro Neighborhood

Masonboro is a neighborhood in Wilmington, North Carolina. This residential area is surrounded by a number of major highways in Wilmington including Oleander Drive, Pine Grove Drive, Wrightsville Avenue, College Road, South Kerr Road, Shipyard Boulevard, and Independence Boulevard.

Going southeast of the neighborhood leads to the Pine Valley Country Club. Meanwhile, going north provides easy access to the University of North Carolina – Wilmington and the nearby University Landing Mall.

The nearby area of South College Road is a few minutes away from restaurants like Kangaroo express, McDonald’s, Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, Lucky’s Night Club, and Slick and Red’s. Residents are also a stone’s throw away from the Mill Outlet Village, King’s Pharmacy and Compounding Lab, Sign-a-Rama, and Graphic Image Printing and Signs. There are also a number of business offices located in the area.

Going northeast of the neighborhood allows residents to easily reach the New Han Regional Medical Center along Wrightsville Avenue. The nearby Oleander Drive also houses the Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park. The northern stretches of Oleander Drive and South College Drive have high concentrations of schools, banks, grocery stores, and restaurants. For South College Road, this extends further north towards Wrightsville Avenue and the University of North Carolina.

The semi-private Holly Tree Racquet and Swim Club offers10 clay courts can be reserved in advance. The pool is available for swim lessons, competitive swimming, and family fun. There is also a clubhouse for socializing.

The 98-acre Hugh McRae Park is a short drive away. It features three softball fields, five baseball fields with lights, a playground, four lighted tennis courts, one and a half miles of paved walking trails, and picnic shelters. The park hosts the Annual Chili Cook-Off and the Summer Concert Series.

There are two shopping areas just a short drive from Masonboro. Independence Mall and Hanover Shopping Center offer a wide selection of stores, restaurants, and services. Hanover has a Stein Mart, Pier 1, Talbots, Rite Aid Pharmacy, and Harris Teeter grocery store. Independence Mall has Belk, The Children’s Place, JC Penny, and Lane Bryant, among many other stores.

Resident golfers have been hitting the inks at the members-only Pine Valley Country Club, which is a short drive away, for half a century. In addition to an 18-hole course, it has tennis courts, a swimming pool, pro shop, and a restaurant in the clubhouse.
