Governor’s Square Neighborhood

Well-established in South Charlotte, Governor’s Square is a traditional neighborhood that has quietly upgraded in recent years. Houses in Governor’s Square were built on large lots in the 1960s and 1970s, and decades later the neighborhood is flush with mature trees, lawns and beautiful landscaping. The homes are mostly ranch style, both two and three-story with traditional, spacious floor plans. Encompassing the 28226 ZIP code, Governor’s Square is bordered by Fairview Road on the north, Carmel Road on the east and Sharon View Road on the south.

Governor’s Square is centrally located between some of Charlotte’s most popular shopping destinations. It’s a short drive to Southpark Mall, known as the city’s premier shopping center. Phillips Place is renowned for its high-end stores, luxurious movie theater and popular wine bar. The Arboretum offers one of Charlotte’s biggest grocery stores amongst a sprawling shopping complex.

Commuting to uptown Charlotte from Governor’s Square is easy, either by personal vehicle or on the city’s express-bus service. A park-and-ride lot is just minutes from the neighborhood, and it is only a short commute to Ballantyne, Matthews and west Charlotte.

Nearby Carmel Road Neighborhood Park is a popular place for a pick-up game of basketball or soccer, and children enjoy its large playground and open fields. McAlpine Creek Park, which hosts one of the largest Cinco de Mayo festivals in the area, also has a 3-acre lake, a fishing pier, a picnic area, a bike trail and a championship cross-country course. Many residents enjoy McAlpine Creek Greenway, an adjacent stretch of 9 miles of wide trails for walkers, runners and cyclists.
