Stonehaven Neighborhood

Stonehaven has grown into a stable and well-established neighborhood that is valued for its well-built houses and proximity to uptown Charlotte and Southpark. The large, sprawling neighborhood is lined with large houses and meandering streets that connect Stonehaven to surrounding neighborhoods.

Stonehaven was developed in the 1970s by Thomasson Builders, one of Charlotte’s early celebrity developers. The houses range in size and style, encompassing both traditional and contemporary architecture as well as ranch, two-story and split level designs. Some houses have basements, a rarity in Charlotte. Stonehaven would never be mistaken for a cookie-cutter neighborhood, as house design and building materials vary widely. All the lots boast tall, mature trees that give Stonehaven a peaceful, shaded atmosphere.

Sardis Road borders Stonehaven on the west; Rama Road borders it on the north. The neighborhood reaches to McAlpine Creek and is included in the 28211 ZIP code.

Residents have access to a neighborhood pool, tennis courts, playground and clubhouse. Just down the road is Boyce Park, which has extensive walking trails, sports fields including a baseball diamond, picnic tables and two playgrounds. The popular McAlpine Creek Greenway has nine miles of trails and nature walks, which are filled with runners, cyclists and walkers when the weather is nice.

Lauded for its great location, Stonehaven residents who work in uptown Charlotte have an easy commute either by personal vehicle or by city express-bus service from the park-and-ride lot near the neighborhood entrance. There are plenty of places to shop nearby, including Cotswold Shopping Center, Phillips Place and Southpark Mall.
