Plymouth-Exchange Neighborhood

The Rochester neighborhood of Plymouth-Exchange nestles up to the west side of the beautiful Genesee River. Located just south of Downtown Rochester, residents of Plymouth-Exchange also enjoy magnificent views of the Downtown Rochester skyline. The neighborhood enjoys the convenience of public transportation within the neighborhood, as well as a major thoroughfare, I-490, just one mile north. The neighborhood is named after the parallel roads, Plymouth Avenue and Exchange Street, that run through it.

Plymouth-Exchange, sometimes called PLEX, is comprised of residential homes, university apartments and businesses. A variety of home styles are found lining sidewalked streets. Long time resident homeowners, together with the Plymouth-Exchange Neighborhood Association, work hard to maintain a balanced ratio between rental properties and home-owned properties. Another neighborhood initiative has been to transform empty lots into gardens. One such beautiful garden is named the Mount Pleasant Park Park.

Bordering the neighborhood on the east is the magnificent 16 mile Genesee Riverway Trail. The trail extends from south Rochester, through historic Rochester and north to Lake Ontario. The paved Genesee Riverway Trail, a favorite among Rochester hikers and bikers, provides a scenic escape from hectic city life.

Just minutes from Downtown Rochester, residents of Plymouth-Exchange are near Rochester’s central business district, chic shopping, exciting nightlife and more. The nearest big box mall, Marketplace Mall, is only a few miles north of Plymouth-Exchange. Another nearby Rochester destination is the noted University of Rochester. Many students make their home inside Plymouth-Exchange at the Riverview Student Apartments. University representatives are actively involved in the Plymouth-Exchange Neighborhood Association.
