Gravois Park Neighborhood

Bounded by Jefferson Avenue, Chippewa Street, Grand Boulevard, and Cherokee Street, the Gravois Park neighborhood in Saint Louis boasts architectural styles that reflect its settlement at the turn of the twentieth century. Unsurprisingly, the neighborhood was named after the nearby Gravois Park. This park, established in 1812, sits in the heart of the neighborhood. Today, the neighborhood offers a nice medley of homeowners, renters, and businesses.

In 1914, Gravois Park was part of an organized walking tour of the city crafted for the purpose of showing off the City Plan Commission’s “idealized view of the shape of the city.” Today, the park is equipped with a pleasant bandstand, a playground for children, benches, and magnolia trees.

Parents of school age children may be happy to learn that several schools lie in the neighborhood. Froebel Elementary School sits off of Nebraska Avenue, with Holy Cross Lutheran School off Ohio Avenue and A Chosen Generation Preschool off of Louisiana Avenue.

Several retail outlets and businesses can be conveniently found off Grand Boulevard and Cherokee Street, within walking distance of the neighborhood. The Saint Louis Public Library’s Carpenter branch can also be easily reached off South Grand Boulevard. Several bus stops are scattered throughout the neighborhood’s main roads.

Gravois Park, a neighborhood brimming with potential, is home to about 5,866 residents, or about two percent of St. Louis’ total population.
