Briarcliff West Neighborhood

Briarcliff West is part an impressive, master planned neighborhood of large single-family homes that is just north of downtown Kansas City. Begun in the early 1990s by developer Charles Garney, the Briarcliff West neighborhood was the first completed part of the development.

The area already has a strong sense of place, due in part to its mature trees, landscaping, and its lush setting on the hilly bluffs north of the Missouri River. Homes in Briarcliff West are substantial. Mostly two story, they are often designed with steep slate roofs and imposing front columns. Many feature native limestone facings.

Briarcliff West is south of Vivion Parkway, west of Arrowhead Trafficway, and north of the shopping district at Northwest Briarcliff Parkway. Winding Mulberry Street forms the spine of this quiet neighborhood, which connects to several streets, courts, and terraces often named for trees and plants of the area. Briarcliff West is an eminently walkable neighborhood, and contains many hiking paths and walking trails that connect to the citywide bike trail network. The shopping center and elementary school are within easy walking distance to most homes. Set apart from Kansas City, Briarcliff West is a quick commute to both the airport and downtown.

Briarcliff Village, at the south end of Briarcliff West, is an upscale shopping center designed to resemble a village in Tuscany. No chain stores are found in the center, which features individually owned boutiques and unique dining. Another striking feature of the retail center is the view from its cliff-top location. Water features ornament Briarcliff Village too, paying tribute to Kansas City’s reputation as the city of fountains. Near the shopping center are high-end office buildings as well as professional services.
