The neighborhoods of Maplewood and Oakdale are eastern suburbs of St. Paul, located about ten minutes from downtown. These cities are located near the intersection of I-94 and I-694.

Maplewood and Oakdale are home to some large corporate headquarters. The main campus of 3M Corporation is located here and is a major employer in the area, employing nearly 10,000 people. Imation World Headquarters is also nearby. St. John’s Hospital, a top healthcare employer, is an excellent source of medical care for area residents.
Tanners Lake and Battle Creek Lake, two of the largest lakes here, offer residents excellent fishing year round. The lakes are also popular swimming spots in the summer months and popular snowmobiling and ice-skating destinations in winter.
Nearby parks Tanner Lake Park, Battle Creek Park, Menomini Park, Shawnee Park, and Serenity Park offer visitors nature trails, beaches, and picnicking facilities. Another place to visit is Maplewood Nature Center. Children and adults will enjoy interpretive nature exhibits and outdoor play areas. Visitors can browse through the nature library to identify a plant or bird, or even rent snowshoes to experience the snowy wonderland that is Minnesota in winter.
Hillcrest Golf Club is one of the finest, most affordable private golf clubs around. It caters to beginners and the skilled alike, and offers excellent amenities, including a club house with a patio and pool for the “non-golfers” of the family. Hillcrest is also a popular spot for weddings, parties, and meetings.
Area residents head to Maplewood mall for serioius shopping. This mall is anchored by Kohl’s, Sears, JC Penney’s, and Macy’s and has over 130 specialty stores including Barnes & Noble, Express, Forever 21, and Old Navy. The food court features nine restaurants as well as a double-decker carousel.
