New Orleans Naval Air Station, LA

Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans trains active-duty and reserve personnel for all branches of the armed services. The base is home to the 159th Fighter Wing, a Louisiana Air National Guard unit that was established in 1958. The original air station, built in 1941, was located on the northern edge of New Orleans along Lake Ponchartrain. The base was moved to its current location in 1957 and the former air station became property of the University of New Orleans.

NAS JRB New Orleans is located about 14 miles south of New Orleans in Plaquemines Parish – a coastal parish that is 65 percent water and is known for its seafood industry. The base is situated in Belle Chasse, the largest town in Plaquemines Parish. Belle Chasse is situated along the Mississippi River and was originally settled by French colonists in the 18th century.
