The Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon landed on an Atlantic Ocean beach in 1513 seeking the “fountain of youth.” Not finding a safe harbor for his ship, he went south and landed at St. Augustine. The community that later developed on the original site is now known as Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Palm Valley is an exquisite residential area of upscale homes in Ponte Vedra Beach, which lies southeast of Jacksonville between the Intercostal Waterway on the west and the Atlantic Ocean on the east. Miles of freshwater creeks and streams run through wooded areas of tall oaks and wild palmettos in the neighborhood that has large home sites, some with several acres of land and waterfront access.
The Palm Valley neighborhood begins at Meckler Road on the south and extends on both sides of Palm Valley road north to the point where it curves east and ends at State Route A1A. Local schools are Ocean Palms Elementary School, Alice B Landrum Middle School and Ponte Vedra High School. Local grocery stores close by are Fresh Market and Winn Dixie. In addition to the availability of standard medical care at good local facilities, Palm Valley residents have access to the Mayo Clinic Hospital, located just off of Butler Boulevard a short distance west of the community.
In addition to the excellent golf available at The Sawgrass and Ponte Vedra Country Clubs, which have hosted PGA tours, the region has many other outdoor recreational activities available. Other activities available nearby include freshwater and deep sea fishing, as well as wind surfing and sailing. Bird watchers enjoy seeking out the over 177 species of birds that can be seen in the area.
