With its beaches, palm trees and balmy weather, it’s no wonder this area attracts those who can afford the best – Palm Beach County is Florida’s wealthiest county. For those not fond of snow, this is the place: the lowest recorded temperature here was 24°F, and that occurred back in December of 1894.
Palm Beach County is not only the wealthiest, but also the largest county in the state in total area, and third in population, with 1,320,134 residents recorded in the 2010 census. The county seat is West Palm Beach.
The county maintains thirteen oceanfront and inlet parks from Tequesta to Boca Raton. Most parks offer lifeguards year round, seven days a week.
Aside from its seaside fun, Palm Beach County offers a surprisingly sophisticated cultural community. Productions by the Palm Beach Opera are held to an international standard of excellence. Founded in 1961 as the Civic Opera of the Palm Beaches, the fully professional Palm Beach Opera presents main stage performances from December through April at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach.
Palm Beach Pops is Florida’s premier orchestra. Performing the music of the “Great American Songbook” from Gershwin to Goodman, from Tin Pan Alley to Broadway, the Palm Beach Pops has distinguished itself as a world-class pops orchestra.
Palm Beach County offers convenience as well as culture, with public transportation available via Palm Tran bus service. The service travels to every major destination in Palm Beach County, from Jupiter to Boca Raton and from Palm Beach to the Glades. The Palm Tran service runs seven days a week with 142 buses, with weekday peak service every 30 minutes and hourly weekend service.
