About 1735 Van Ness
1735 Van Ness, affectionately known as the Spreckels Mansion and the centerpiece of the "Three Sisters," carries some fascinating history. The original estate on this corner belonged to Claus Spreckels, one of San Francisco's most powerful sugar barons of the Gilded Age, whose grand mansion was lost in the devastating 1906 earthquake and fire. In its place rose the stunning apartment building that stands today, built in 1928 and designed with the same spirit of grandeur. The lobby, dressed in Spanish Colonial style with a wooden ceiling clad in gold copper leaf, is a testament to that legacy, and many apartments throughout carry the character of the era, with magnificent neo-gothic architectural details, original hardwood floors, bay windows, big views and updated kitchens and bathrooms.
Ideally situated along the Van Ness corridor in Pacific Heights, residents enjoy easy access to the best of San Francisco living. Polk Street's boutiques, wine bars, and neighborhood restaurants are just around the corner, while Lafayette Park, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods are all within a short walk. The Marina, Russian Hill, and Cow Hollow are easily reachable on foot, and with MUNI bus lines right at your doorstep, the rest of the city is never far behind.
