CT Russell Lofts are located in the vibrant and popular Jackson Ward neighborhood. With three fully renovated historic buildings to choose from, the CT Russell community offers some of the most sought-after units in downtown Richmond. Designed by Charles T. Russell, Richmond's first African-American architect and Jackson Ward native, these buildings provide unprecedented historical significance. The complex of the Lofts, House and Bank includes the former home of the Richmond Beneficial Life Insurance Co., the first for Richmond's African-American community, and an adjacent bank that served the life insurance company and its employees. Originally known as 2nd Street Bank, by 1930 it was part of the banking group headed by Maggie Walker.
