Hillwood Neighborhood

Hillwood is an established family-friendly neighborhood in Nashville where homes sit among mature trees on spacious properties, sometimes hidden in the surrounding greenery. Driveways often rise steeply up hill so that in the event of a winter snow, cars are left parked on the street. As a result of those hills, walking or biking in the Hillwood neighborhood on the no-sidewalks roads can give residents (and their pets) a major workout. One caution about driving around Hillwood is that the streets typically twist and meander in a way that can leave both visitors and residents directionally-challenged. However, traffic in this section of West Meade is mostly light.

Architecturally, the neighborhood is a mix of ranch-style homes and more recent upscale modern designs. The name Hillwood belongs to the boulevard that connects to Charlotte Pike or Charlotte Avenue at one end and to Harding Road at the other. There is also a West Hillwood Drive, a Hillwood High School, along with the H. G. Hill Middle School and the Hillwood Country Club, a private member club that was chartered in 1953. Another recreational facility on nearby Davidson Road is the members-only West Meade Swim and Tennis Club.

Prior to the opening of a large popular mall on Charlotte at the junction of Hillwood Boulevard, residents could shop (and still do) on White Bridge Road, on Harding Pike, or on the long stretch of Charlotte. Now the mall, called Nashville West, offers big name retailers that sell books, clothing, electronics, sporting goods, shoes, and much more. Several dining choices and Costco too are part of the complex and a short distance away is a Wal-Mart and Lowes. A mini park on the site is equipped for kids’ play.
