The boundaries of the neighborhood are North West 30th Street on the north, North West 25th Street on the south, North Youngs Boulevard to the west and North Pennsylvania Avenue to the east. This has been designated one of the historic districts in Oklahoma City. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. There are just fewer than 300 buildings of interest in this neighborhood. It is a charming area with many beautiful homes. There are homes in a wide variety of styles. There are examples of art modern, traditional bungalow, old English Tudor and ranches along with other styles. The vast majority of the homes are from the 1930s and the yards are a little bigger than some other neighborhoods with lovely landscaping and trees. Homes have sidewalks that run from the front of the homes to the street but not along the street.
There are lots of local businesses along North Pennsylvania Avenue and there is a Domino’s Pizza. To find a wider selection of businesses a two-block walk to 23rd Street brings residents to the Walmart Neighborhood Market, a Sonic Drive-In, Papa John’s Pizza, KFC, McDonald’s and Blockbuster Video.
Swatek Park is a small four-acre neighborhood park located adjacent to the Shepherd Historic District. It contains a playground, a baseball field and a volleyball court. There are also some open spaces and leashed dogs are welcome with their owners.
