Canterbury Neighborhood

The residential community of Canterbury is located along U.S. Highway 33 in the Upper Arlington area of northwest Columbus. The neighborhood is roughly bordered by Farleigh Road on the north, West Lane Avenue on the south, Riverside Drive on the west, and Leeds Road on the east. The area provides a retreat from city life due to plenty of nearby parks, rivers, and lakes. The Scioto Golf Course is also located at the southern boundary of the community.

The Canterbury neighborhood offers a wide array of architectural housing styles due to the varying ages of its residences. Some homes date to the mid-1900s, while others are brand new builds. Home prices also vary considerably, making it easy for nearly all buyers to find something in Canterbury that suits their wants and needs. The manicured lawns; tree-lined, pedestrian-friendly streets; and friendly, welcoming community are all draws to Canterbury.

Hoover Park, also known Griggs Reservoir Park, lies on the western border of Canterbury. This park is well known for Frolf, short for Frisbee Golf, a unique activity that provides outdoor fun for all ages. The park also offers visitors miles of trails for walking, jogging, or biking, as well as picnic facilities and swing sets. Adjacent to Hoover Park is Griggs Reservoir. This body of water provides excellent bass fishing, boating, and other recreation on the water. James J. Thomas Park, Duranceaux Park, and Fancyburg Park are additional parks located just to the north of the neighborhood.

Members enjoy the private Scioto Golf Course, situated just south of Canterbury. Designed by Donald Ross, it is one of only four courses to have hosted the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, the Ryder Cup, and the U.S. Amateur Championship. This is where Jack Nicklaus learned to play and the course on which Bobby Jones won his second of four U.S. Open titles.
