Snug in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Colorado College is located on a beautiful 90-acre campus on the north end of downtown Colorado Springs. The western edge of campus borders Monument Valley Park, a beautiful park developed around 1904. This popular park features a municipal swimming pool, jogging and cycling trails, tennis courts, and picnic areas.
Founded in 1874, CC is a private liberal arts college that enrolls bout 2,000 students. The college has a unique “block plan” system where students take one class at a time, with each class lasting nearly four weeks. Professors teach only one class, allowing the class the freedom to delve more completely into the subject. Between each block, there’s a block break, a four-and-a-half day “vacation” where students can relax, explore, volunteer, or enjoy the beautiful Colorado landscape and all of the outdoor activities it offers.
Top-ranking CC has one of the highest college retention rates at 96 percent. It is a selective college with a 24 percent acceptance rate. The campus features several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, while newer buildings include the Olin Hall of Science, the Packard Hall of Music and Art, and Tutt Library.
