Clear All FiltersGuilford County, North Carolina
The busy Piedmont Triad metro area of North Carolina is a mixed bag of textile manufacturing, agriculture, and technology companies. It contains three major cities: Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point. Ten counties make up the Piedmont Triad, and one of those counties is Guilford.
Founded in 1771, Guilford County is rich in history. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse was a turning point of the American Revolution. The British Commander, General Charles Cornwallis, suffered large casualties and decided to withdraw to the coastline to receive reinforcements. The decision led to the siege and surrender of General Cornwallis at Yorktown, Virginia. The 1781 battle is commemorated at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, a major tourist destination.
Guilford’s county seat is Greensboro, the largest city in the county and one of the largest cities in the state. This centrally-located city has become a business hub, with companies such as Honda Aircraft Company, Mack Trucks, and the Lorillard Tobacco Company all calling Greensboro home. Greensboro is home to the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and North Carolina A&T State University.
High Point is another major city in Guilford County, and some government buildings are located here, as well. It hosts the semi-annual High Point Market, the largest home furnishings industry trade show in the world.
Other cities and towns in Guilford County include Gibsonville, Jamestown, Sedalia, Summerfield, and Oak Ridge.
