Mansion Area Neighborhood

Mansion Area is a neighborhood in central Albany, New York, just south of the downtown business district and the state capitol. This community is bounded by Madison Avenue and Hamilton Street on the north, Eagle Street on the west, Warren Street and Arch Street on the south, and South Pearl Street on the east. Mansion Area is part of Albany County, situated in the 12202 zip code area.

This artistic community is a mix of residences and commercial offerings, including Victorian row houses and some of the city’s most popular eateries and busy nightlife. Residents here enjoy a variety of downtown amenities within easy walking distance, which makes it a very pedestrian friendly neighborhood. This area is also convenient to several Greyhound and CDTA bus stations, the city’s Amtrak rail and the state thruway.

Opportunities for art and culture, within walking distance of the Mansion Area neighborhood, include the Egg Performing Arts Center, Palace Theatre, the New York State Museum and Times Union Center. Also in this area is the Empire State Plaza Convention Center. Additionally, a variety of higher education options and medical facilities are situated within walking distance west of Mansion Area, providing easy access to health care and education, as well as providing area jobs.

Despite being near the heart of the downtown area, residents of Mansion Area also enjoy close proximity to several opportunities for outdoor recreation. Just outside of neighborhood boundary to the west is Lincoln Park. This popular city park offers plenty of open green space in the midst of the city, as well as amenities like tennis courts, playgrounds, trails and a basketball court. Washington Lake Park is also within walking distance to the northwest. In addition to a variety of amenities, this city park regularly hosts concerts and events, including an annual holiday lights festival centered around the nearby capitol.
