Naval Air Station Oceana is a military airport dating back to 1943. It is home to 17 strike fighter squadrons that include carrier wings, F/A-18 Hornets, and Super Hornets. The airport is also known as Apollo Soucek Field in honor of Vice Admiral Apollo Soucek. In 1929 and 1930, Soucek was a record-breaking test pilot. He later served in WWII and the Korean War.
NAS Oceana is located in southwestern Virginia Beach about five miles from downtown. For an apartment near NAS Oceana, look in Northeast Virginia Beach or North Central, south of I-264 and in the Lynnhaven Mall area.
