Known as the birthplace of Naval Aviation, North Island Naval Station is located on the north end of Coronado, a resort city on a peninsula that extends into the San Diego Bay. NAS North Island is part of the Navy’s largest aerospace industrial complex. It is also a National Historic District, built in 1917. The base contains 23 aviation squadrons and 80 tenant commands including the Naval Aviation Depot, San Diego’s largest aerospace employer.
Coronado is both affluent and beautiful. It is home to one of the top beaches in the nation, Coronado Beach. It is a popular tourist destination with several major resorts including Hotel Del Coronado, a Victorian beach resort built in 1887. It is the oldest and largest wood building in California. Coronado (the “Silver Strand”) is a great location for an apartment near NAS North Island.
Downtown San Diego is only about three miles away from NAS North, making the city an ideal place for an apartment, as well. Look in Sigsbee Row, Sherman Heights, Pacific Terrace, Gaslamp Quarter, East Village, and other bayside neighborhoods.
