Southwestern Hills is a neighborhood in Des Moines, Iowa. The borders of the neighborhood are Water Works Park to the north, Army Post Road to the south, Fleur Drive to the east, and Southwest 63rd Street on the west. This is primarily a residential neighborhood. The homes in this neighborhood are large, built mostly in the last 20 years, and consist of a variety of styles. This is one of the priciest neighborhoods in Des Moines.
Park Avenue Apartments offers an affordable option for living in the Southwestern Hills neighborhood. The complex offers one- and two-bedroom apartments. There are plenty of appealing amenities, including all appliances in the apartments, high-speed Internet, an outdoor pool and spa, and a fitness center.
Des Moines International Airport is located in the Southwestern Hills neighborhood. The Des Moines area is serviced by most major airlines.
Waterworks Park is a 1,500-acre area of open land that offers a lot of opportunity for outdoor activities. This is a great place to walk, jog, bike and fish. There are lots of wide open spaces that are great for playing ball games. Water Works Park is a favorite place for neighborhood families to go for a picnic.
Wakonda Club is a private 18-hole golf club that has been offering a family-friendly environment to their members for over 80 years.
Harmon Park, which is located within the Southwestern Hills neighborhood, has several tennis courts that are available for residents to use. Carney Park is another park that is located within the neighborhood. There are several fields for organized sports, and these fields have lights for late games. The far side of the park has some woods, but it is mostly open fields for sports events.
