Kensington Park Neighborhood

Located in Gainesville, Florida, Kensington Park is a large neighborhood situated just south of Northwest 53rd Avenue and Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park. This picturesque neighborhood blends so well with the surrounding state park that one could easily overlook the homes built within the scenic landscape.

Situated within Kensington Park are upscale single-family homes. Kensington Park is unique from many other neighborhoods. Rather than clearing away the trees and natural beauty to build homes, the houses are built within the landscape – which adds to their appeal and charm. The homes surround several small, quiet streets including Northwest 48th, 49th and 50th Terrace and Northwest 51st Place. These streets wind around to Northwest 53rd Avenue and the State Park.

Kensington Park is a residential area in the 32606 ZIP code area. The neighborhood does not include rental facilities like apartments and condominiums. There are various rental options available nearby. All are located less than two miles to the south of Kensington Park.

The appeal of the Kensington Park area is the landscape. Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park is so-named for its “hopper” or bowl shape which is a sinkhole over 100 feet deep. Boardwalks, viewing decks and steps have been installed for the public to observe this natural wonder.

Within the deep cavity contains a miniature version of a rain forest. The streams that drip down the incline allow lush greenery to thrive even during times of drought. This sinkhole is of particular interest to geologists due to the fossilized remains found there including shark teeth and extinct animals. If residents of Kensington Park want more of the great outdoors, the San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park is less than two miles to the southwest.

Although Kensington Park has rural appeal, there is a variety of shopping and dining venues located within a few miles of the neighborhood. Downtown Gainesville is less than five miles to the southeast which offers many options including arts and entertainment. One of the best universities in the state, the University of Florida, is approximately four miles also to the southeast of Kensington Park.
