Situated about 30 miles south of Fresno, Hanford is surrounded by farmland and it is an important center for trade. Hanford is home to several large businesses, including a cannery for Del Monte Foods. It is also home to the Kings County Fairgrounds.

Hanford is an important city with a diverse economy that includes government, farming, and manufacturing. Historic Downtown Hanford is everything you’d want in a downtown – a variety of shops and boutiques, the historic Fox Theater, several annual events, and museums – most housed in beautiful historic buildings.

While smaller and quieter than its neighboring cities, there’s plenty to see and do in Hanford! Here’s what you can expect when searching for apartments in Hanford.

Things to Do in Hanford:

Once you’ve chosen a Hanford apartment for rent, be sure to check out the Kings Art Center. This center opened in 1989 and features a variety of shows, most of which are switched out on a monthly basis. Shows include pottery, prints, water color, photography, and mixed media. Art classes are also available at the King Art Center for adults and children.

While you are downtown, be sure to check out Main Street Hanford – the beautiful downtown district that features a Farmer’s Market, a variety of shops and restaurants, and many historic buildings.

Another terrific performance venue, the Temple Theater, is home to the Kings Players. This local theater group was founded in the 1960s. In addition to several plays every year, the theater hosts classes and events.

The beautiful Hanford Carnegie Museum is a beautiful Carnegie Library that was built in 1905. Today, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and operates as a history museum.

The Kings County Fair is held every summer and includes live music concerts, a carnival, a fairway, and several shows and exhibits.

Of course, living in Central California, you’ll want to get out and enjoy the terrific weather. Hanford provides 21 parks that offer playgrounds, ball fields, picnic pavilions, and open green space for residents to enjoy.

What to Consider When Moving to Hanford:

When the railroad came through what is now Hanford in 1877, the pastoral scene was dotted with sheepherders. The auditor of the railroad was James Madison Hanford, and he took an active role in building the small settlement into a thriving town. The town was eventually named in his honor.

Today, Hanford is an important commercial and cultural hub for the region. Government, services, farming, and manufacturing are the largest industries. Hanford is home to the Hanford Mall, which draws visitors from around the region.

Hanford is perfectly situated about 200 miles north of Los Angeles and roughly 200 miles south of San Francisco. Enjoy these major metro areas during long weekends away, then come back home to your peaceful apartment in Hanford!
