Grilling is permitted only on the patio area downstairs. Gilchrist offers a serene beach experience between the open Gulf and the bay. The beach is wide and largely uncrowded, with slow-moving vehicles and fishermen at dawn. Houses are elevated on pilings, providing ample space and sky. Small cafes, bait shops, and stores are a short drive away, and the ferry to Galveston is nearby for day trips. The best way to get around is by car or truck for errands and exploring.
