In 1777, the Continental Army, led by George Washington, established a winter encampment at Valley Forge. The Valley Forge National Park is located partly in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The park extends into Chester County.

Montgomery County is located along the Schuylkill River in the Delaware Valley, northwest of Philadelphia. Montgomery County is home to many colleges and universities. Bryn Mawr College is a women’s liberal arts college that was founded by Quakers in 1885. The private college is a National Historic District. Other schools include Haverford College, Penn State Abington, Rosemont College, and Temple University.
Montgomery County has been listed as one of the best places to raise a family by Forbes Magazine. It includes several boroughs and townships, including Bridgeport, North Wales, Ambler, Telford, Lansdale, Plymouth Township, Abington Township, Hatfield Township, and Worcester Township.
