Oklahoma County, Oklahoma

Located in the heart of Oklahoma, the county that shares its name is dotted with 73 lakes and is home to the largest city in the state. Oklahoma County is popular with boating and fishing enthusiasts, who can also enjoy the Oklahoma River. Others will appreciate the trails along the river, perfect for biking, skating, running, and walking.

Oklahoma City is a top livestock market. It is also home to major industries centered on oil, petroleum, and natural gas. Oklahoma City is home to Tinker Air Force Base, which is also a major employer. Two major universities call Oklahoma County home: Oklahoma City University and the University of Central Oklahoma, located in Edmond.

Oklahoma County was established in 1890 as “County Two.” It has changed and grown since then, but historic sites stand as tributes to the past. One such site is the Oklahoma County Courthouse, an art deco building dating to 1937. The Oklahoma City National Memorial was placed on the National Register of Historic Places the same day it was founded. It is a memorial that honors those affected by the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995.

Smaller cities, mostly suburban, fan out from the central hub of Oklahoma City and include Warr Acres, Nicoma Park, Harrah, Edmond, Arcadia, and Smith Village.
