The private, Catholic Marquette University was founded in 1881. A large school, Marquette is among the largest Jesuit universities in the nation. It is located in Milwaukee just west of downtown. As Wisconsin’s largest private university, Marquette enrolls about 8,300 undergraduate and roughly 3,500 graduate students. The university offers 77 majors, 50 doctoral and master’s degree programs, and 37 graduate certificate programs.
Marquette’s beautiful campus sprawls across 93 acres, about a mile from Lake Michigan. When choosing an apartment to rent in the Marquette area, downtown Milwaukee and the neighborhood of University Hill are ideal locations. Although Milwaukee is famous for its breweries, the downtown area has much to offer, including the Milwaukee Art Museum, wonderful shops and restaurants, and attractions such as the Harley Davidson House and Old World Wisconsin, the Midwest’s largest living history museum.
The Marquette Golden Eagles participate in NCAA Division I as part of the Big East Conference. Teams include soccer, cross-country, tennis, and basketball. The school colors are blue and gold. Some of Marquette’s famed alumni include Academy Award winning actor Marc Alaimo, Tony Award winning actor and screenwriter Anthony Crivello, comedian Chris Farley, actor Kevin Farley, and composer Paul W. Whear.
