Texas Tech University is a public, coeducational research university in Lubbock, Texas. Established in 1923, it is the leading institution of the Texas Tech University System; has the seventh-largest student body in the state of Texas; and is the only campus in Texas that is home to a major university, law school and medical school. The Texas Tech Red Raiders are members of the Big 12 Conference and compete in Division I for all varsity sports. The Red Raiders football team has made 33 bowl appearances; the men’s basketball team has made 14 appearances in the NCAA Division I Tournament. Students known as “Saddle Tramps” carry Bangin Bertha, a bell on a trailer, to all home football games and homecoming events.

Notable alumni include singer John Denver and WellPoint president and CEO Angela Braly, ranked by Fortune magazine as the most powerful woman in business.
