Located in the Appalachian Mountains of northeastern Ohio, Youngstown is the ninth-largest city in the state. It is roughly halfway between Cleveland and Pittsburgh with about an hour drive to each. But this is a college town, and the largest employer is Youngstown State University, a highly-regarded research university located downtown.

The Youngstown State Penguins play in NCAA Division I and are most recognized for their football program, considered among the best in the country. The university has produced well over 20 NFL players, including Tony Aiello, Craig cotton, Vince Marrow, and Jeff Wilkins. The football team plays at Stambaugh Stadium, referred to as the “Ice Castle,” and their colors are red and white. Other Penguins sports teams include soccer, baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, track and field, and tennis.
