Siena College - Loudonville, NY

Founded in 1937 by Franciscan Friars, Siena College was started during an unlikely time – the nation was still suffering from the Great Depression and there was talk of another great war on the horizon (WWII). But Siena College endured to become a well-known private, Roman Catholic, liberal arts college. It is located in Loudonville, a tiny hamlet just north of Albany, New York.

Four-year Siena College is situated on 174 acres and enrolls about 3,200 students. The college was named after Saint Bernardino of Siena, an Italian Franciscan friar referred to as the “Apostle of Italy.” Saint Bernardino lived from 1380-1444. School colors are green and gold, and the school mascot is a Saint Bernard named Bernie. The Siena Saints are part of NCAA Division I in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The men’s basketball team has appeared in six NCAA Tournaments. Other sports include lacrosse, baseball, and hockey.

If you want an apartment in the Siena College area, Loudonville is a beautiful community that began as a 19th century summertime resort for wealthy Albany residents. Other nearby communities include Latham, Troy, Cohoes, and Green Island. If you don’t mind a short commute, Albany is only five miles south. Look in the city’s northern neighborhoods, such as Arbor Hill, West Hill, Sheridan, Ten Broeck Triangle, Beverwyck, and Washington Park.
