Established in 1908, Montclair State University is a research university and New Jersey’s second-largest school. It is one of the few universities in the country to offer a PhD in Environmental Management, and it is the only university in the US to offer a doctorate degree in pedagogy. MSU is ranked as one of the top universities in the country.
Although Montclair State University is a suburban campus located in Upper Montclair, students can take the train from the Montclair State University Station into Penn Station in nearby New York City.
The Montclair State Red Hawks play in NCAA Division III. Sports facilities include Sprague Field, the MSU football stadium; MSU Soccer Park; Yogi Berra Stadium, home to the baseball team; and Panzer Gymnasium, home of the basketball and volleyball games.
