The University of Iowa - Iowa City, IA

In the heart of Iowa along the banks of the Iowa River, the University of Iowa features a beautiful campus both in its location and in its architecture. UI was established in 1847 and is the oldest public university in the state. It is one of the top research universities in the nation and is part of the Big 10. The university boasts many high-ranking colleges, including their high-ranking medical program and the Speech-Language Pathology program, ranked the best in the nation by US News and World Report.

The most famous building on the UI campus is the Iowa Old Capitol Building, built in 1842 as the main government building. When Des Moines became the capital of Iowa, the building became the cornerstone of the university. It is registered as a National Historic Landmark.

The Hawkeyes are not only a force to be reckoned with in the classroom, but they are a major powerhouse in the collegiate sports world, as well. As part of NCAA Division I, the Hawkeyes provide exciting sporting events for all of Iowa City. The football team plays at Kinnick Stadium, named for graduate and 1939 Heisman Trophy winner Nile Kinnick. The Hawkeyes consistently make bowl games and won the FedEx Orange Bowl game in 2010. The Hawkeyes also dominate in wrestling, winning over 23 national titles. The men’s basketball team has appeared in 22 NCAA tournaments and play at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
