With the Gulf of Mexico as part of the classroom, students at Eckerd College get a rare opportunity to study marine science, biology, and environmental studies in spectacular outdoor laboratories. The school also has several water recreation and water sports available to students. Eckerd College is a private, four-year liberal arts college at the southern tip of St. Petersburg, Florida. It was established in 1958 and consists of 188 acres with a mile of the campus located on the Gulf of Mexico.
The gorgeous campus features buildings with walls of glass, further connecting students with the environment. Students can study while watching the dolphins and manatees swim along the college’s South Beach area, or they can watch wildlife such as great blue herons, pelicans, egrets, wood storks, roseate spoonbills, cranes, bald eagles – and the occasional alligator. Eckerd is well known for its programs in marine science, environmental studies, chemistry, and international business.
