About 4 1st St

Built around 1850,4 First Street is one of the historic homes of Purdys,New York. The house was originally located near the Purdys train station,in the old hamlet that developed around the railroad during the 19th century. In the early 1890s,construction of the Titicus Dam and Reservoir transformed the surrounding landscape as New York City expanded its Croton water-supply system. Land was acquired for the new reservoir, and buildings in the affected area had to be removed or relocated. 4 First Street was one of the houses moved as a result of the reservoir project, transported by oxen from its original location near the railroad to its present site in the Purdys hamlet. Today, more than 175 years after it was built,4 First Street survives as a tangible connection to both the early settlement of Purdys and the dramatic transformation of North Salem brought about by the creation of the Titicus Reservoir. Located just two blocks’ walk to Purdys Metro North train station, approximately one hr,10 mins to Grand Central Station, one minute to I-684/Saw Mill Parkway, and approximately one-hour drive to Midtown Manhattan,4 First Street is a short walk to the renowned Farmer & the Fish restaurant, with the traditional Blazer Pub and Primavera (restored by former owner,Stanley Tucci) within a few minutes’ drive. In addition, the Hammond Museum and Mountain Lakes Camp are nearby for culture and recreational opportunities. Approximately 10 minutes to the south is the charming village of Katonah (Bedford Township),where one can stroll and enjoy plentiful dining options, shopping, art galleries, markets, etc. Nearby find the Katonah Museum of Art,John Jay Homestead,Caramoor, and a multitude of farmers markets and preserves, including the county’s largest preserve,Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, with over 4300 acres of trails for hiking,cross-country skiing, riding, and camping. Outside, enjoy the serene patio and balcony off of the primary bedroom,as well as the classic front porch for morning coffee and evening sunsets. Amenities include a partial house generator for heat, refrigerator, select lighting. There is an EV charger by the side porch. A pellet stove provides warmth and charm, with the efficiency, ease and convenience of pellets.
